What is the PANHELLENIC BIOCYCLIC VEGAN NETWORK?
Central Network Coordination
The PANHELLENIC BIOCYCLIC-VEGAN NETWORK consists of about 80 certified small scale family driven organic operations, which are committed to organic farming according to IFOAM approved the Biocyclic-Vegan Standard which is based on the common work and research of Adolf Hoops (1932-1999) and Dr. agr. Johannes Eisenbach. The network is coordinated by BNS Biocyclic Network Services (Cyprus) Ltd. Being the respective owner of the biocyclic vegan quality label, BNS is responsible for the training of specialised agronomists and the introduction of the Biocyclic Vegan Standard to growers (including the calculation of the Biocyclic Farm Index BFI). BNS is also responsible for quality assurance and order processing on behalf of the member organisations of the Organic Marketing & Export Network (O.M.E.N.), through which biocyclic vegan products are exclusively distributed.
Technical Support
Growers who cultivate according to the Biocyclic Vegan Standard are supported and supervised by qualified BNS trained agronomists, who are employed by the respective regionally responsible O.M.E.N. member organisations. Under the coordination of BNS, every year the Green List of permitted agricultural inputs for biocyclic vegan operations is updated.
Control and Certification
In addition to the controls of the state-accredited local EU certification bodies according to Reg. (EU) 834/2007, biocyclic vegan operations are controlled in Greece and Cyprus by BIO HELLAS (GR-BIO-03) and DIO (GR-BIO-01) according to the Biocyclic-Vegan and Naturland standards as well as in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and France by CERES . The Panhellenic Biocyclic Vegan Network is a member of the Naturland Association for Organic Agriculture since 2010.
Marketing
All biocyclic vegan products are exclusively distributed through the regionally responsible O.M.E.N. member organisation of the specific grower. On the basis of a common quality management system, the O.M.E.N. member organisations’ pack houses implement a unique traceability system as a part of the biocyclic flow-of-goods control system which is called ARIADNE-Traceability System. This system is in force at all stages of procurement, processing and transport, making it possible to retrieve detailed information about the product within a very short time through a so called P-number which is written on every single packaging unit (carton, net). Every P-number consists of 16 digits and depicts every stage of processing, from harvesting the fruit from a single plot to the final buyer who receives it. Consumers can get information about the biocyclic vegan product they have purchased as well as information about its grower by going to the section “P-Numbers” on our website and clicking on the P-number of their product. Retailers who take part in the web-based quality initiative “Bio-mit-Gesicht” offer their customers the opportunity to get this information by entering a 5 digit “bio-mit-gesicht-number” on www.bio-mit-gesicht.de. Biocyclic vegan products are available in organic shops in Austria through Biohof Achleitner and in Germany in the stores of HIT.
